my friend shona and i ventured out to another farmer's market this weekend!
this one was a little bit farther out of town.
but we took a bus to within ten minutes of the park where it was held.
we spent that ten minutes in deep conversation with an old asian woman from singapore.
she decreed that shona (from new york) had a typical, movies-style "american" accent...
and i sounded southern.
what?!?!
i beg to differ.
but i digress.
this farmer's market was a bit different from the first.
more of a flea market, if you will.
lots of second hand kitchen items, odd clothing, unorganized old books mixed in with yummy food.
i picked up some delicious ten grain, whole wheat bread and a huge bag of mushrooms.
i fawned over some homespun wool, but decided to wait...
and... we had lunch there.
gyro's in a cup (pita, hummus, tabouleh, lamb, yogurt sauce, hot chili sauce...yum.)
and because my name wouldn't be christian wash without deserts in my life...
i got this incredible fried donut, filled with raisins, covered in cinnamon sugar, pan fried in butter and dolloped with homemade whipped cream.
let's just let that one sink in for a second.
we spent a few hours here without even realizing it.
tons to do.
tons to see.
even more to eat...
i think on tap for today is a quick romp downtown with my big kid camera, maybe a trip to the art gallery and then a late afternoon posting up in the library with books about "women's experiences in new zealand during world war II"... (this history major in me is secretly excited about this)
have a wonderful day.
