every country has it's one treat that you can only get there. and when you go home, all you can think is "man... i wish i could get some ____(insert said treat here)___"
for mexico it's manzana lift.
(a fizzy apple flavored drink)
for italy it's really crispy, crunchy, gooey thin crust pizza.
for jamaica it's perfectly prepared plantains.
you get the point.
so for new zealand...
it's tim tams.
tim tams are a small chocolate "biscuit" (cookie) covered in melted chocolate and layered in the middle with any number of fillings.
the originals have chocolate cream.
but there is also black forest (white cream and raspberry), chewy fudge, chewy caramel and dark chocolate.
tim tams are delicious all by themselves.
but the kiwis have invented another way to enjoy them.
the tim tam slam.
take any hot beverage.
we'll use homemade hot chocolate.
(my friend shona made us this treat the other day... melted chocolate chips, boiling milk, coconut and vanilla essence and a teaspoon of espresso powder)
bite off the two opposing corners.
and suck the hot chocolate up through the gooey center
until you feel the whole cookie collapsing
and all the chocolate starts melting off
and the whole thing seems in danger of imploding
and then...
you shove the whole thing in your mouth as quickly as possible.
yum.
sometimes you don't get it in time.
and you have tim tam in your hot chocolate.
but that never killed anyone.
that i know of.
c
Oh, my! these Tim Tams sound wonderful as does the hot chocolate! Absolutely yum.
